Solar Panel Cleaning

Experts say, "Yes!" Dirt on your solar panels will allow less of the sun's rays to reach the photovoltaic cells resulting in less efficient energy production. Some reports say that you can lose as much as %15 efficiency.

The addition of solar panels to a home are a large investment and should be cared for accordingly.

We do all work from ladders or on the ground. We never climb on your roof. The less traffic you have on your roof, the less potential you have for damage and leaks.

We use soft brushes and squeegies and mild non abrasive detergents to clean your solar panels without damaging them. Some people may use harsh, abrasive chemicals or pressure washers all of which can damage your expensive solar panels.

We also use filtered water to leave a spot/streak free shine!

At a minimum you should probably have them cleaned once or twice a year. There are a lot of factors that can determine how frquently you should have your solar panels cleaned, such as;

  • The angle of your solar panels can have an effect. Solar panels with less of a pitch will tend to collect more dirt and debris. Also rain water will not flow off as well and can create a muddy film.
  • If you live in an agricultural area, like Butte County, the potential for dust is increased especially around planting and harvest times. Even if you don't live right next to a farm dust can travel for miles.
  • Trees, even if they're not right over your roof can send pollen ravelling for miles coming to rest on your solar panels. Trees also attract birds.
  • Birds! These beautiful creatures can be the bane of solar panels. They can leave behind huge mess that once dried is very difficulty to remove.
  • Rainfall. While rain can be helpful at keeping your solar panels clean in the winter, if your panels have a shallow pitch it won't run off well. Light spring and summer rains can actually make matters worse. Instead of washing the dust off you end up wth muddy spots or damp glass that pollen and dust would love to stick to. Think about how your car looks after a light sprinkling.
